Mediterranean Wellness




Greece as a Mediterranean country, is known for its well balanced diet believed to aid good health and longevity. The Med Diet as it is called is more than just a diet, it is a lifestyle approach to healthy eating and is often depicted by a pyramid. The main foods one should daily and frequently consume are vegetables, fruits, herbs, pulses, nuts, whole grains and olive oil and are shown at the very bottom of the pyramid. Next come fish and sea food enjoyed twice a week which are important sources of protein and omega 3 fatty acids good for the heart. These are followed by poultry, eggs and dairy produce which are eaten regularly but in moderate portions. At the very top of the pyramid are the” sometimes foods” meat and sweets which are eaten less often and as a treat. The key word is moderation. There is no need to eliminate entire food groups or cut out your favorite foods. All foods fit in this healthy diet which has been tried out for decades and has proved to be one of the healthiest eating patterns worldwide. Wine can be consumed regularly but moderately. One glass per day for women and two for men. Plenty of water is essential for proper hydration, wellbeing and energy and can be brewed with herbs for better results.
