In Latin Mentha pulegium and in Greek known as Fliskouni «Φλισκούνι». It grows wild especially near water throughout Greece in sunny places and releases a pleasing aroma when stepped on. When brewed its characteristic minty taste freshens the palate and helps rejuvenate the body. It also helps ease digestion and is often favoured as an after dinner tisane. Its popularity in Spain and Greece has led this plant in recent years to be threatened with extinction. Recently it has been successfully cultivated in many parts of Greece.
